At Emmett’s 9-month checkup, his mom, Liz, voiced to his doctors that she noticed Emmett wasn’t reaching key motor milestones—he wasn’t sitting up by himself or crawling. His doctor did additional testing and found that Emmett’s CPK levels were elevated. After additional specialist referrals and genetic testing, Emmett was diagnosed with DMD 2 weeks before his first birthday.
“I was in complete shock. I never expected anything like that. I try to stay optimistic, with all the medical treatment that’s available and will be available in the near future.”
